In addition to the 3 days ‘International Conference on Population & Development: Navigating Challenges and Exploring Opportunities’ scheduled from 18th to 20th November, 2024, Sri Jai Narain Misra Post Graduate College, Lucknow University, and the Indian Sociological Society (ISS), Ethnographic and Folk Culture Society (Lucknow) are organizing a comprehensive two-day, on-site workshop on specialized topics related to research methodology in social sciences on 16-17 November 2024. This pre-conference workshop aims to provide students and early-career researchers with the essential knowledge and skills required for conducting effective research across various domains of social sciences.

The workshop is meticulously designed to cover the entire research process. Participants will begin with the foundational aspects of research, such as understanding different research paradigms, identifying and formulating research questions, and developing robust research designs. They will also delve into advanced topics like qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques, data analysis using software tools, and ethical considerations in social science research.

A unique feature of this workshop is its interactive format. Through a blend of lectures, hands-on exercises, and group discussions, participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with the expert researchers. The workshop will be led by a distinguished panel of experienced researchers from both India and abroad, bringing a wealth of knowledge and diverse perspectives to the sessions. These experts will share their insights on best practices in research methodology, drawing from their extensive academic and field experience. Workshop Objectives:

  • Define key terms and concepts in research methodology.

  • Understand data collection methods, sampling techniques, and ethical considerations.

Schedule:

Day 1:

Introduction to Research Methodology:

  • Theories and frameworks in social science research.
  • The research process: formulating research questions, developing research proposals.

Research Designs:

  • Quantitative research methods (surveys, experiments, etc.).
  • Qualitative research methods (interviews, focus groups, etc.).
  • Mixed methods research.

Data Collection Techniques:

  • Designing questionnaires and interview guides.
  • Sampling techniques (probability and non-probability sampling).
  • Ethical considerations in research.

Day 2:

Data Analysis and Interpretation:

  • Introduction to data analysis using software tools.
  • Descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing.
  • Data visualization techniques for presenting research findings.

Research Communication:

  • Effective writing for research proposals and reports.
  • Preparing presentations for conferences and seminars.
  • Disseminating research findings through publications and other channels.

DURATION :

2 Days (16th and 17th November – Two days prior to the International Conference on Population and Development)

Important Information: 

*This workshop is designed for 30 participants from various disciplines. Only the research scholars/young faculty registering for the conference will be considered for participation in the workshop. Students will be selection will be made on the basis of quality of the abstract.
*No fees will be charged for the workshop.
*Food and refreshments will be provided during the workshop sessions. Dinner and accommodation will not be provided for the workshop.
